If you are ever touring eastern India then I would highly recommend you to visit Darjeeling. It is regarded by many as the queen of all hill stations in this country. This place is ensconced in pristine surroundings of Lesser Himalayan ranges and it is a small heaven in West Bengal. Darjeeling is located at a height of 6,710 feet.
UNESCO has declared this place as world heritage site. The imperial constructions here date back to British rule and the city doesn’t look like any other local Indian city due to its Victorian unmistakable skyline. There are enchanting brick chimneys and beautiful Church spires which makes it a paradise for any tourist.
There is a beautiful monastery here called Dhoom Gompa along with a magnificent statue of Maitrayie Buddha. It contains one of the rare Buddhists manuscripts. Tenzing Norgay built up a mountaineering institute in this city for displaying all the mountaineering equipment that he used in his expeditions. Zoological garden nearby has a lot of different yaks, red pandas, Siberian tigers, etc.
There is also a ropeway here and it was the first ropeway that was ever built in this country. Darjeeling is a treasure for people who love jewellery and goods like carpets. You will also find traditional collections from Tibetan Refugee camps.
Lloyd Botanical Garden fauna is also another attraction at Darjeeling. You get to see the racecourse at Lebong and it is the highest racecourse in the world. Tiger Hills are famous internationally for the lovely sunset and beautiful Mt. Everest scenery. You will also love the rhododendron tress located at Sandkpuhu and Phalut. At Pashupati, there is a one horned rhino close to Nepal border and this adds to the delight of any tourist.
Jaldapara Game Park offers elephant ride and Lepcha legendary stories on River Ranjeet and Teesta add to Darjeeling’s mystical element. Kalimpong market has wares like wool, Tibetan medicine, and musk which every enthusiastic tourist will love.
Visit this place and you will surely agree with me that the city is like a piece of paradise fallen on the Earth. There are train toy rides for children and the beauty of this place reaches it peak at locations like Kurseong. Orange orchards and tea estates located in Darjeeling will take your breathe away. Also, places like New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri are must visit for all.
Places like Batasia Loop exhibit modern engineering. There is a five kilometer loop here which will add to excitement. Darjeeling gives you best views of the Mt. Kanchenjunga along with the different and beautiful monasteries and museum here. I would recommend this place for a tired traveler to rejuvenate himself.
