How about going to the beach?
There is nothing like strolling along the sands of a semi deserted beach in the spring time. The weather is moderate and the hotels are cheap. Rehoboth, Delaware is a great place to take the family.
It is unlike some of the other ocean front towns on the east coast of the Unite States, because it has not been ruined by major development. Rehoboth is quaint and personal. It has a main street that is lined with lots of interesting little seaside shops, selling anything from sea shells to eccentric furniture.
The book shops are very well stocked with the latest issues. The clothing and jewelery stores are original and very artistic. If you are looking for wind up robots, then look no further than Rehoboth.
Rehoboth has the best of both worlds; the shops a well stocked with the latest sand toy or CD, you feel as if you could be walking through a fashionable area of lower Manhattan, yet, at the same time, you have a sense of freedom with the ocean, plus the significant lack of the traffic and hustle and bustle.
There are a very good variety of restaurants, all within walking distance of the Ocean front. There is an excellent Sushi Restaurant that I really recommend, which is about one block up from the beach.
Further up, you will find a few little, open arcade type places, with shops and eating establishments. There are a few fine dining restaurants, offering great food and service.
If you want Mexican, you’ve got it. If you want fish n chips, it’s there too.
Grotto’s pizza has the best in the land. I have frequented this pizza joint for about fifteen years and have never been disappointed. I prefer the one on the boardwalk.
The well kept wooden boardwalk itself, is about a mile long and one can rent bicycles, tandems and carriages that carry four. One can cycle the boardwalk before ten in the morning.
Even in the busy season, when walking around Rehoboth, you still get the feel that it is a quiet, respectful place, especially when strolling around the little lake areas, which is home to several Duck and Swan Families.
The beach is very clean and maintained. One can walk along the water’s edge for miles.
Once everyone has eaten their ice creams and buckets of Boardwalk Fries, maybe it is time to do some serious shopping in the nearby outlet stores.
The best part about the outlet stores, apart from there being plenty of them, is that they are all tax free! Delaware does not charge slaes tax, only on hotel accommodation.
I tend to save up all my shopping needs for Rehoboth’s outlets stores. Even though I can spend a fortune there, it is still much cheaper than visiting my local stores. After a good morning or afternoon, of outlet shopping, what about a game of miniature golf?
There is a very nice and challenging miniature golf course very close to the outlets, and one can break up the boredom for the kids by playing a couple of rounds.
In the spring, as I said, it is cheaper and one can easily find a hotel very close to the Boardwalk. There is nothing like waking up in the morning and watching the Dolphins or Porpoises swimming close to the beach, through your hotel window.
